Right! Lng time no update! We have all successfully passed our Multi-Engine Command Instrument Rating on the Duchess and after having a nice two-week break, we are back now doing 35 hours of ground school a week with the ATPLS. This ATPL course is expected last for approx 8-9 weeks, so it’s going to seem like forever

Subjects we have to take for ATPL are:
-Met practical
-Met Theory
-Navigation
-Flight Planning
-Instruments
-Radio Aids (RNAV)
-Radio Telephony

So far some subjects seem harder than others, hopefully we will all get through ok! What follows after this is the Jet Trainign Simulator (JTS) where we will learn about Multi-Crew Jet operations, we’re all looking forward to that!

Jack, Peter, Toby and Wilson all passed their Mod 5 Hong Kong GFT flying test (Hong Kong CPL).
Andrew, Geoff, Trevor and Chris will be doing their test in the next few days. Wish them luck!

As for the Duchess, I just perform circuits today… it was an awesome aircraft to fly. Very easy to handle and very easy to land. The only thing is that it is a little bit hard to taxi but I am getting a hang of it pretty quickly. I think Jack is enjoying his time on the Duchess. Jack feels proud that he is finally flying an aircraft with more then 1 engine… also no more PFL!!! Wilson will start his Duchess tomorrow and Toby will start on Friday. This is all very exciting as we are all approaching the end of our training. Module 6 only consist of about 30.5 hours of flying & simulator time. It will goes by pretty quickly and before we know it, it will be ATPL and JTS time. Fun Fun Fun!

Flight graders, they are finally coming! All 10 of them will arrive this sunday… we heard a lot of rumors about them… aeronautical engineers, guys with CPL and frozen ATPL, more engineers… we are looking forward to meet them when they arrives. Congrats to all of them on getting this far into their interview process. Good luck!

Today, Trevor (CP23), Chris (CP23), Leo (CP24), Kevin (CP24), Boris (CP24) and Me (Peter CP23), we drove Titus to the airport and send him off… Although, we might see Titus again in two weeks as he might return to Adelaide to complete his training or he might return to Canada. We will see how it goes… but no matter what he is going to do, we wish him luck!

On a happier note… Jack passed his Module 5 check today! Congratulations to Jack! Next up is me (Peter) on Monday, Wilson on Tuesday, Toby on Wednesday, etc… Module 5 check is the equalivant of CPL, we call it Hong Kong GFT… so everyone is flying hard and trying to prepared for this flight test, wish us luck! The requirement for the Hong Kong GFT is 70 hours of PIC (Pilot in Command) time, 20 SPIC (Student Pilot in Command) time, 30 hours of cross-country (must include 1 nav that is over 300nm with two intermediate stop and aircraft refuelling stop), 10 hours of instrument flights, 5 hours of night cross-country and 5 hours of night circuits. Most of us have way more then the requirements. Most of us should have around 180 hours by the time we completes Module 5. Anyway, wish us luck for our test. Take care for now. Ciao.

This is just to keep everyone updated regarding the last post. Titus from CP23 will be leaving us on the Sunday, 9th April, 2006. It is definitly a sad day for everyone in CP23 and CP24. Everyone in the Cathay courses wish him well for his future career. Titus was a great friend and an awesome member of CP23. We will miss Titus weird sense of humor that keeps us laughing during ground school. His friendliness allows him to mix well with not only everyone in the Cathay Pacific courses but also members of the other courses as well. Everyone in CP23 will wish him luck in his future flying career. Keeps the dream going and never give up! Everyone in CP23 will want to see you again in the sky in the future!

It has been awhile since we posted on our web-site. A lot happened since our last post. Most of us in CP23 completed Module 4, for those who haven’t done so will complete within the next few days. Also we finished our Hong Kong tech exam and all of us has started full time flying. It turns out that full time flying is probably less stressful / less tiring then the flying / ground school combination. Also you learned much faster with full time flying. Most of us finished Module 4 within a month. Just incase you do not know, Module 4 involve IFR flight. Personally, it was a pretty steep learning curve for me at the begining. After a few flights, you get a hang of it pretty quickly. By the end of Module 4, I actually like IFR flying more then VFR flight. Weird isn’t it? Haha…

Since our last post, we also got a week of holiday (flex week). Trevor and Jack went to New Zealand, Geoff and Andrew went home to Sydney and Gold Coast respectively, Chris went to Cairns, Titus and Toby went to Hong Kong, Wilson stayed at Adelaide as his uncle is visiting, and I went to LA to meet up with my friends back home. All of us had a blast and it was a great opportunity to recharge ourselves for another 6 months of training. Time passes by pretty quickly here and before we know it, we’ve got 6 more months to go before our graduation. Let’s hope everyone will do well in the next few months or so. Take care for now. Ciao.

Hello there! Sorry that we have not made an update for a while, I suppose I will have to make this post extra long to make up for it! I am sure all of you that visit our site are understanding enough to appreciate that we are kept on our toes, so we haven’t had the chance to update hehe!

We’re pleased to say that we have all passed our Module 2 check for GFPT and we all moved on up away from the Grob and onto the Tobago TB10. The TB10 is a single engine Manual Constant Speed Unit aircraft which has 4 seats. It is much faster than the Grob and is perfect for navigation exercises, many more instruments and radios too! We are all in the middle or towards the end of Module 3 now doing Visual Flight Rules navigation exercises. It’s all good fun, we are finally flying to places away from the ‘home’ airport (Parafield) and it’s exciting exploring new places. A lot is to be learned and after a few navigations with your instructor, we are sent SOLO navigation! Very exciting!! Module 3 flight test will be very soon, I am confident everyone on my course will do well.
We have also begun Simulator practice in preparation for Instrument Flying.

Life is good, despite all the ground school and flying, we still have a social life! =) We still go out to many places to eat, but we don’t go out as much to go go-karting anymore, we have looked into Paintballing, which sounds like fun!
We have also taken on positions of responsibility within the College where we are representatives for things like the sports, food or entertainment committee. These positions ensure we are well rounded as well as improves our co-ordinating and team-work skills. It also gives us a sense of belonging and responsibility within the school as well.

Also, we just had Christmas this past weekend. We spend the weekends together and open Christmas presents together. It was a lot of fun and everyone had a great time laughing at the hilarious presents that we brought each other. On the 25th Dec, it was also Titus birthday and we had a small celebration with birthday cake and the everything. Everyone had a fun times and I think everyone got the needed rest over the weekend. Although, I think the calories count is going straight out of the roof with all the chocolate and junk food that we have been eating all weekends. I am sure we will find ways to work that off in the next couple of weeks.

So what’s the next plan? We are planning to have a New Years Eve party at the school bar. Since most of us in CP23 is part of the campus committee, we are trying to encourage people from other courses to participate. We donno how well will this work but we will give it a try anyway. We are planning to have Foosball competition, Pool Competition and a Jumbo Jenga Competition. I am sure it will be lots of fun and we will post pictures of the events later.

Well, I hope that has given you an insight to behind the scenes with what we are going through and that you may even be inspired to join the Cadet Programme we’re in one day.
