About Titus Cheung
Name: Titus Cheung
Age: 27 [25 Dec 1977]
Interests: I believe the official interest is um... of course... aeroplanes!
Flying is my latest found interest indeed. There are a few reasons but the
main two are: a) every flight is different, b) the joy of being up in the air
is sensational.
Aside from flying, I enjoy golfing, working out, looking at market derivatives,
and reading up on marine aquariums.
Background: Borned in HK and immigrated to Vancouver in 1991. First summer
job was doing house wiring on construction sites (my first go with electricity).
Grew an extreme keen interest in audio and spent all my leisure time (yeah no life)
at the high school's electronics lab. Decided I wanted to be an EE designing audio
components or if not, working for the hydro company. So EE was an easy choice for
me. Third year in, thought Fourier Series was the coolest thing EE had to offer,
and the co-op students were giving good reviews about the telecom industry, I decided
to focus on wireless telecom. Finished 4th year in 1999 when the IT industry has just
peaked. Thought unsupervised filter theory was the next coolest thing there was, I
decided to do a Master on it. Turned out the research topic was on capacity modelling
and prediction, and antenna arrays. Then the tech industry slumped overnight and the
professor decided to move to Greece. With no job prospects and no progress on research,
I started my marine aquarium equipment business
designing calcium reactors and skimmers. When I finally had my thesis nearly done,
spent 2 months in West LA, originally for an interview at UCLA but ended up interviewing
for automotive sales. Didn't get either job because no one wanted to sponsor for a
VISA after the tech bust and 9/11.
Back to Vancouver I went to sell Hondas hoping I can at least survive until the tech
industry rebound. It never did and still haven't as we all know. Plus surviving at
the dealership trying to make a living was a nightmare. Luckily, the manager at a Lexus
dealership gave me an opportunity. After first
year, thought the pay was excellent and because quite a number of my school mates were
still un-employed, I thought alas I found my career.
Then a friend from HK told me about the Management Trainee program at Cathay. Sketical
and curious I was, I browsed through Cathay's site and the Cadet Pilot program caught
my attention. Never had I known that they actually hire inexperienced pilots!
After the application, I started my flight training and thought flying is the most
enjoyable thing to do. Trying to juggle flight training in between work hours, I
completed my PPL just prior to joining CP23.
